It's Raining Bullets - Bulletstorm demo is HOT

Finally got my hands on something I have been anticipating for quite some time: Bulletstorm.

Shooters have been losing their violent little charm for me (probably for more personal reasons then the games theirselves). I have not seriously played a shooter since Gears of War 2. Bulletstorm just looked more promising then any other shooter that has come out.

And the title. It caught my attention.

After playing the demo (which has a seriously awesome and high replay value for just a demo), I will certainly be purchasing this game on day one. The encouragement of killing with skill and creativity allows for more variety then the focus on getting the most headshots that other games shove in our faces. I only managed to do the two creative kills that the tutorial showed me which brings me to my only beef wig Bulletstorm.

It is quite tedious to set up the kills, especially with a storm of bullets flying at you (see what I did there?). You have to think quickly on your feet so you can rack up points. This game is going to take some practice. I thought I can just pick up the controller and go at it, but that certainly was not the case.

I can not wait to pick this game up and play against my friends. February 22nd needs to hurry up.

What I Like (and don't like) about Netflix

When I was dating a guy I had my first run in with Netflix. He and his roommates each had subscriptions to the service. They would get dvds in the mail and also stream it on their game consoles. It was interesting to say the least, having the stuff that was instantly available to watch. We spent quite a lot of time browsing what we could watch, but, to be honest, I don't really reccall us watching much through Netflix. We still watched mainly actually dvds, went to the theatres, and burned stuff we wanted to watch.

I did a free month trial of Netflix after much debate. Some people just boast like its the greatest thing since sliced bread so I checked it out.

Streaming was a mess, atleast on my wonky internet service, which is more my fault then Netflix. But the ability to stream movies is probably what makes Netflix as "amazing" as most people claim. After trying to stream a movie constantly - and it failing - I decided to do the mail service.

I do like the speed in which I get dvds. I send one back and it takes maybe a day to get the next in my quene. Most of the movies I've watched so far are movies that I probably could've brought on dvd because I would like to rewatch them. Yes, that would've been more expensive, but atleast I would have had them in my possession. I do have a tv series in my quene next, but getting one dvd at a time is going to take forever to finish the ten season long television show. I also do not think the show is available to watch instantly (i could be mistaken but since I personally can't watch anything instantly anyway then it doesn't benefit me)

Netflix is like ten bucks a month though so that's the best thing about it. Countless movie rentals for very cheap. I used to go to the movie rental place and get maybe 5 movies, all due back in like 2 days. It was pricy and I always had a late fee.
Red Box, a movie sentai vending machine, is also something I like to use. For a dollar I can rent a movie for a day. I think its just as good as Netflix, especially when if has movies ON their dvd release date whereas it takes Netflix so long to get the movie (a month or more).

All in all, I may cancel my Netflix service. It doesn't really benefit ME personally although others have great success with it. I just don't like when people have this holier then thou attitude about the service. It isn't a perfect movie service. What happens when I really want to watch something but it isn't available at that moment to watch instantly on Netflix (it has happened despite what all you want to think). If I have a dvd or blu ray, I know its there and I can just pop it in. Instant Netflix, to me, seems just like my movie channels on my cable provider. I can peruse what is up there but if isnt there I'm shit outta luck.

I do still love having a physical copy that is MINE and I can always then to to watch. I don't think netflix will completely take over movies and how we view them until it somehow perfects its service - which is kind of impossible. Out of the movies I have viewed through my time with netflix, I am going to buy the physical dvd of the majority of them.

I guess it is all a manner of personal preference and what a person likes. If theyre patient about their movies and not easily disappointed (or just damn cheap), the Netflix is pretty good - especially with decent internet. If they're like me and want the ability to go to my shelf and grab a dvd, having them proudly displayed like a testament to my movie geekiness, then Netflix is only a So-so service that is good to have but not the end all be all of movies.

Show me some Skin part two

Decided to list a comparison of the two of what I liked and didn't like:

-UK Tony was cuter then American Tony. He also had more of a manipulative look about him. I heard that American Tony is 18 but he looked way younger then that, almost around the age of 14. Again, American Tony lacked the personality to fill the role of Tony.

-Michelle was probably the only character that was pretty dead on, atleast for this first episode. American Michelle is prettier then the UK one.

- Stanley was a huge disappointment since Sid was my favorite character. Stanley came off as a little creepy, like the guy noone wants to be around. Sid was just an adorable, awkward kid.

-this Katie character that is supposed to be replacing Cassie is completely different from Cassie, who reminded me of Luna from Harry Potter. I'm not sure I like Katie at all.

-the other four characters aren't even really worth mentioning in this first episode...I love their UK versions but we really missed out on seeing some of them in this first episode, at least enough to get a feel for them. Right now they seem like nameless background characters. I do miss Maxxie being male and homosexual. I suppose changing him to female (and a lesbian I think?) Is far "hotter" for American audiences. Maxxie was such a great character that had to deal with some shit, but I will see where they go with this lesbian (?) character.

I already can tell the American show is a bit more censored then the UK version. Not a lot of f-bombs or nudity. I never really thought Skins was appropriate for MTV anyway, despite the give "Mature audiences" bit they put before the beginning of the show. Only time will tell if this show is worth watching, which I shall keep doing until it bores me to death. Here's hoping the show picks up. I do remember thinking the same about the UK version so maybe I will grow to love this one as well.

Show Me Some Skin: American version of Skins lacks "charm"

Perhaps I ruined it by watching the UK version last week, but the American adaption of the British show, Skins, is not very appealing at all - even though its almost identical to the UK show.

Maybe its the actors and actresses chosen for the show or maybe its how forced everything seems, but the show is certainly trying to hard to live up to the adaption. And it shows.

It would be harsh to place it solely on the shoulders of the young "stars" (the word used very loosely) but they are the ones on screen and their performances are quite so-so. they lack a certain personality that is needed to play the roles of their characters.

Perhaps when the show deviate from its UK predecessor, as it has been rumored to do, it will get better. Maybe they grow into their roles as the season goes on. Something NEEDS to happen because its a bit dull right now.

Speaking of UK to US adaptions, Being Human also premiered tonight and it was a far more appealing adaption.

Getting Stung: Green Hornet starts 2011 Right

Seth Rogen is a funny guy. Even with plaster and bullets flying around him there is still hilarity - never a dull moment with that guy. And even while kicking much ass, flipping over criminals heads, and punching them in the jaw, Jay Chou can be a funny guy himself.

After seeing the Green Hornet trailer attached to nearly every movie in late 2010 and the quite comical Hardees commercial featuring the two masked vigilantes, January 14 did not seem to be getting here fast enough. Finally, Green Hornet was in theatres and the movie did not disappoint.

The movie was pure fun. If you're looking for some deep movie with multiple layers, complex characters, and twists woven through out...then this isn't the movie for you. But if you're looking for - to quote Seth's character Britt Reid - "balls to the wall" action, hilarious dialogue, and brilliant coreographed fight scenes then please go see Green Hornet. It's amazing.
